Front-end developer Full-time

Published at 2017-10-05 - Viewed: 2079 times - OCCRP (Worldwide/Remote)

We’re looking for an experienced JavaScript front-end developer to work on our data-driven research tools. Our projects help investigative journalists to access vast amounts of data and to unravel complex stories about corruption and fraud.

You will be part of a team that prototypes, develops and maintains our data search and case management products. Working with our designer, you will deliver understandable and useful interfaces tailored to the needs of investigative reporters and researchers. In our small team, that means taking ownership, working directly with our users and shaping what we build.

Our front-end stack is React/Redux, Sass, BlueprintJS and SASS. Our JSON-based APIs are powered by Python/Flask, PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch. A development API endpoint can be used to avoid local setup. Our products are open source software, published via GitHub.

The team is located in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Candidates are supported with relocation, or they can work remotely within six time zones of CET. Remote team members are expected to travel to Sarajevo periodically for planning and in-person work sprints.

Salary will be based on experience and location. Ideal candidates will be available full-time. The position is funded for at least one year, with the possibility to extend longer. OCCRP is building a diverse and professional team. Citizens of the countries in which our reporting has focused are strongly encouraged to apply.

The data team is an in-house research and development unit that actively contributes to OCCRP’s award-winning investigations, such as the Global Laundromat. We also build data and collaboration platforms that allow hundreds of reporters in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America to work together and hold the powerful to account. Our work is funded by the Google Digital News Initiative, the Open Societies Foundations and several other grants.
