About Us
The Consul Democracy Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing digital and participatory democracy through the open-source platform Consul Democracy. With over 200 cities and municipalities using Consul Democracy worldwide, we empower governments to engage citizens in meaningful decision-making processes. Our team is currently working on exciting new projects, including the development of an AI-powered Civic Engagement Assistant, to further enhance accessibility and inclusivity in participatory processes.


Your Role
As Technical Lead, you will play a central role in coordinating the technical development of the Consul Democracy platform, driving innovation, and ensuring smooth collaboration with developers, partner organizations, and municipalities. You will lead the implementation of new features, oversee our AI assistant project, foster our open-source community, and support the creation of impactful citizen engagement tools.


Your Responsibilities
1. Technical Roadmap Development and Coordination
Lead the creation and maintenance of the technical roadmap in collaboration with the team.
Evaluate feature requests and prioritize software enhancements that align with our mission.
Oversee and coordinate software development with maintainers, technical partners, and external developers.

2. Leading AI and Process Design Projects
Coordinate the development and integration of our AI-powered Civic Engagement Assistant, designed to help governments improve process design, analyze citizen input, and enhance inclusivity.
Ensure the AI project aligns with the needs of municipalities and delivers meaningful value for both citizens and administrations.
Assess technical challenges and ensure smooth integration into the Consul platform.

3. Community Engagement and Growth
Grow and support our open-source contributor community by fostering engagement and collaboration.
Represent the Consul Democracy Foundation at tech conferences and civic tech events, increasing visibility and attracting new contributors.

4. Technical Consulting and Strategic Input
Assess programming efforts and development costs for new features and tools.
Provide technical guidance to partner organizations and municipalities to ensure seamless implementation and sustainable solutions.

Your Profile
Proven experience in software development or technical project management, ideally in open-source environments.
Strong understanding of Ruby or similar technologies (experience with Consul Democracy or related platforms is a plus).
Experience leading IT projects, particularly in integrating innovative technologies such as AI tools.
Passion for digital democracy, open-source software, and innovative civic tech solutions.
Excellent English communication skills (spoken and written).
Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
A collaborative mindset and experience working with international and cross-functional teams.
