We are a small and growing social enterprise based in Boston but our systems are deployed primarily in rural Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We work on a broad range of issues, including strengthening community health programs, electronic medical records, supply chain, and client engagement. We are seeking a full-time programmers to join our core team in Boston and lead or support development on multiple projects. The ideal candidate prefers small organizations to large ones, multi-tasking to single-project assignments, significant international travel, and a highly social atmosphere. Our developers share a passion for new technologies, making things work in challenging environments, and seeing the impact of our work first-hand. # Mobile Software Engineer
Join our mobile team and help improve our flagship mobile product being used throughout the world.
Specifically, we’re looking for engineers:
To help grow a mature open source J2ME/Android product base
Who are passionate about building usable software for groups of people facing unique challenges (remote locations, low levels of literacy, no experience with technology, etc)
Who think that building robust software that works offline with almost no memory that runs on a 4 year old Nokia phone sounds like it might be a fun challenge rather than a chore
Who want to travel and work on-site with local partners in developing regions
Ideal Candidates:
Have a background in Java J2ME and/or Android development
Have experience working in resource-restricted settings
Want to get things done
# Performance and Operations Engineer
Join our dev/ops team and help manage our ever-growing cloud infrastructure supporting our services.
Specifically, we’re looking for a candidate to:
Lead development efforts for automating and scaling our services
Diagnose and troubleshoot production issues that affect our customers
Create and maintain standard operating procedure documents for new issues identified
Be gatekeeper of our continuous delivery process
Develop tools for stress testing, monitoring, and alerting
Requirements:
Understanding of web application architectures
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python preferred)
Deployed highly automated production systems in a cloud environment
Bonus:
Developed a Django application
Experience in PCI/HIPAA or similar regulatory environment
# Web Application Engineer
Work on a large web application supporting community health and supply chain programs worldwide. Join our biggest team of engineers on building usable, performant, scalable web applications.
Specific technologies are not important but having several of the following is preferred:
Fluency in a scripting language like Python, Ruby, or PHP
Experience developing web applications with a framework like Django or Rails
Experience using JavaScript frameworks like Knockout or Backbone
Experience using SQL and “NoSQL” databases
