Being the core component of SUSE's software products, the Linux kernel is one
of the most important projects that SUSE employees are contributing to. SUSE
is one top contributors and also one of the oldest ones to the Linux kernel.
In order to keep improving the Linux kernel, both for the profit of SUSE's own
products as well as the upstream kernel project, SUSE is constantly looking for
new talented people who want to get paid to work on the Linux kernel on behalf
of SUSE.
Currently, SUSE is looking for a new colleague who is going to work on storage
drivers and the storage stack in the Linux kernel in general. The job deals
both with debugging problems with storage drivers and fixing them as well as
porting new drivers to the SUSE Linux kernel.
Work is done both on SUSE's own kernels available in the various distributions
we are shipping as well as the upstream Linux kernel, so upstream work is
an important part of the job. Regular interaction with hardware vendors is
also part of the job, so you will have the chance to get your hands on new
hardware the moment it is announced to the market or even before.
The job is officially listed as an on-site job at any of the SUSE offices
around the world, but for most engineering jobs at SUSE it's usually okay
to work in the remote office which is what I am doing as well. So, please
don't hesitate to apply if you want to work remotely.
